There have been days in my life when there seemed to be no hope. Remembering back to my teenage years, often times suicide seemed to be an easy solution to my problems. This past summer, in the small community I live, there were two suicides (that I know of). The first death involved a 16 year-old-girl with a life of promise: volleyball star, acedemic excellence, tons of friends... She strangled herself in her closet, undoubtedly because she lost hope and couldn't find any. The second death involved a 12 year-old-boy that also strangled himself, because he was having a tough time with his dad. Again, there seemed to be no hope in his life.
Hope is hard to find in this life. Even if we watch Christians as role models, what hope are the lost seeing: maybe fansy houses, clothes, cars..., maybe closet smokers, drinkers, gossipers..., maybe judgment, persecution, discrimination..., maybe self-righteousness, selfishness, self-indulgence... As a life-time Christian, I too found little hope in others, even those with the best intensions. Not everyone has a background in Christianity, not everyone knows where we find our hope, assurance, righteousness, joy, blessings, peace...Jesus.
If there is one thing I've learned in my life, it would have to be this: Less of me, more of Him (Jesus). Too many times I've relied on myself for achievement. Broken each time I looked in the mirror, to others, or anything else but Jesus.
Satan is attacking our young people - he wants our young people to die before they have a chance to spread God's good news. This is evident if you just look at the 6,000+ aborted babies/day, and starvation (a child dies every 2-4 seconds)... We need more hope! If we are looking upon ourselves to fix this problem, then this evil trend of lost hope will continue.
What is the solution? Well the only solution is Jesus. How can we spread the hope of Jesus if we are unwilling to show others our weaknesses, if we are never able to say we're sorry, if we are never able to do unto others as we would have them do to us, unable to forgive, unable to use our tongues to heal and not hurt....
If we do forgive, show our weaknesses, say we're sorry, give beyond logic, control our tongues - then this power has only come from the One and Only Lord God Almighty, His Son Jesus, and Holy Spirit!!!!!!!!! We need LESS of US, and MORE of HIM!!!!!!!
